So I came to this job with the idea that they were looking to hire if things worked out. I'm starting to think they just like having clerks. I really want to work at a firm like this one. If it isn't this one, my options start looking slim. Great reveal the first week on the job. Maybe I'm reading it wrong.
Is it ambitious or obnoxious if I get all my references to call in while I'm there?

I'm doing the small-ish firm thing also, and I couldn't be happier.
It's definitely less smoke and mirrors than the big firms. I've talked to several freinds summering at 500+ lawyer firms right now and some of them have actually been wooed into thinking that the associate life will be just like the summer associate life... Uh oh.
Good luck reeling it in! While job security all next year would certainly be ideal, I kind of want to see what other employers will be around campus in the fall.
